Buying second-hand Stone Island clothing is the best way to get pieces from the brand at a better price, find models from past seasons that are no longer manufactured, and, while you're at it, give clothing a second life. That said, it’s best to do it wisely. Here are the seven things we recommend you check before buying.
1. Make sure it's original
This is the first thing. Check the compass patch, the arm buttons, the inner labels, and the Certilogo code. We explain it step-by-step in our guide: how to tell if a Stone Island piece is original.
2. The actual condition of the garment
Ask for photos and pay attention to the areas that wear out the most:
- The patch: edges, color, and make sure it isn't frayed.
- Cuffs, collar, and hem: scuffs or loose threads.
- Zippers and buttons: that they work and none are missing.
- Stains or holes, no matter how small they may be.
Keep in mind that many Stone Island garments are garment-dyed and, with washing, the color softens a bit. It is normal and is part of their charm.
3. Size and measurements
Don't just trust the letter on the label: compare the measurements with a garment of your own. In our size guide, we explain how to do this.
4. Real photos and a clear description
Be wary of listings with catalog photos or vague descriptions. The photos must be of the garment you are going to receive, and the description must state its condition without beating around the bush.
5. Returns and warranty
Buy from places where you can return the garment if you aren't convinced and where they stand behind its authenticity. It is your best protection if something isn't as you expected.
6. Pay securely
Use methods that protect you, such as card or PayPal. Avoid paying via bank transfer or instant payment apps to strangers: if something goes wrong, it is very difficult to recover your money.
7. A reasonable price
A second-hand garment should cost significantly less than a new one, but be wary of deals that are too good to be true: they usually hide a counterfeit. Pieces from past seasons, special editions, or those that are like new may cost more, and that is normal.
